Covid safe vacations in 2022

If you still want to be on the safe side this summer, what is a COVID-safe vacation in 2022?

Studies have shown that how people think about vacations has changed during the course of the pandemic. What was once placed on a bucket list has now turned into “this year I’m going to…”(with fingers firmly crossed)

So what do you need to know to travel this year?

What are the safest places to travel in 2022?

For the data cruncher: In the US, there are a host of government websites that are regularly updated with places that ranked by public safety measures.

The U.S. State Department’s Travel Advisories keeps an updated tally of places that are deemed ranked by safety. Wherever and whenever you plan on traveling, this is a great website to bookmark.

For COVID-safe places, the CDC keeps a regularly updated list of COVID-safe travel destinations by country. This website tracks the count of COVID cases from 4-very high (lots of cases) to 1-low (very few cases).

If you are not concerned with COVID, but you are looking to find out what countries are safest from societal, government and terrorist activities, you’ll want to check the Global Peace Index. Maintained by the Institute for Economics & Peace, the Global Peace Index ranks countries on a scale of 1 (very peaceful) to 5 (least peaceful).

COVID safe vacation ideas for the adventurer

Maybe you were one of the almost 300 million people who roadtripped to National Parks in 2021. If that seems like a lot of people, it was! Visitors year over year increased 60% from 2020.

Try something different in the summer of 2022. Wherever and whenever you travel in 2022, most people seem to agree on one thing—it feels safe to be outside. This could be a feeling that doesn’t leave us for a long time after a few years of being careful. For those who like a little adventure in their travels, there is no end to active vacation ideas, which are good for the body and soul.

Whether your plans this year is to stay domestically or travel abroad, there are activities galore to start dreaming about and planning for and there’s no time like the present.

1. Hiking and trekking

Walking trips can be as easy or strenuous as you like. Hike along the Appalachian Trail, spiritual contemplation on the Camino de Santiago, or go for the heights of Kilimanjaro.

2. Bike trips

Cover more ground while still taking in the scenery, people and culture of your designation. Biking trips abound all over the world and with e-bikes now available, they are truly for all levels. Find a trip for you in Austria, Zanzibar and everywhere in between including the amazing country of Jordan.

3. Excavations and digs

For a unique, once-in-a-lifetime COVID-safe trip, be an explorer in the truest sense by going on a paleontology or archaeology dig. Travel to places such as Australia to dig up ancient marine creatures called Kronosaurus or help dig up dinosaurs in Wyoming. If history is your bag, help to excavate historic kivas in New Mexico or a 19th century forgotten town in Australia. There are paleontology digs and archaeology digs for all ages and in locations around the world.

4. Kayaking

The relaxation and beauty on the water is a different way to experience a destination. Whether you are a newbie or have some experience wielding a paddle, there is something for everyone. In the United States, there are destinations from Lake Tahoe in California to the Chesapeake Bay in Virginia and no lack of places in Europe and beyond. From the Wild Atlantic Way in Ireland to the Krutynia River in Poland, there is so much to explore.

5. Safaris

Long limited to wildlife viewing in Africa, there are now many types of safaris around the world. Experience where it all began in South and East Africa in style or try an Antarctic penguin safari for a unique take on things.
